Pilot Project:
Reforestation and Agroforestry in Napo, Ecuador
A pioneering step towards sustainability and green world
In April, terra utopia e.V., in collaboration with our partner REFORESTAL, will start an innovative pilot project in Tena, Napo province (Ecuador). This effort represents a milestone in sustainable reforestation and the implementation of modern agroforestry systems.
We want to preserve the green world and together with Wilmer and his family, who have generously made 1.7 hectares of their land available to us
we will demonstrate that ecological reforestation and socially responsible agroforestry models can go hand in hand to benefit both nature and local communities.
Creating a sustainable ecosystem
The heart of this project is the creation of a diversified agroforestry system, where different species of trees and crops coexist in harmony. Within this initiative, we tested the effectiveness of cocoa as a “tutor” for climbing plants such as vanilla and passion fruit, exploring how biodiversity can replace traditional cocoa monoculture and combat pests naturally.
With this approach, we not only boost reforestation, but also strengthen the ecosystem as a whole, creating a model that can be replicated in other regions to promote sustainable and resilient production.

One of the key pillars of the project is collaboration with the local community to care for the green world. By integrating ancestral knowledge with modern and sustainable techniques, we generate a positive ecological and economic impact. In addition, we have the support of Ikiam University, which supports us with research and technical expertise, consolidating our comprehensive, science-based approach.
